MARS CHALLENGE IMPACT

Understanding what changed.

Mars Challenge observes what people create, the decisions they make and the changes that can be documented during or after the experience. A project shows work produced; a story may describe a decision or a new direction. Here we connect those records with their context and sources. We cannot always show who. We can make a change visible when there is evidence to tell its story. Observing a sequence does not, by itself, demonstrate that Mars Challenge caused the result.

Different forms of change.

Activity

What happened: participating, working as a team or creating a project. Experience records and materials can document these activities.

Observed change

A decision, a trajectory or a later use that someone reports or that follow-up can document. It needs context and a source.

Demonstrated impact

A causal claim needs a sufficient methodology. Project descriptions and recognition do not, on their own, provide that demonstration.

Change takes different forms.

These are signals we seek to document, rather than outcomes we attribute to every participant.

When an experience becomes evidence of what you can do

Before
A university student arrived at Mars Challenge unsure how far they could go in an experience like this or what they could build with others.
During
Their team progressed further than expected and gained access to the international stage. The process involved tackling an open problem, working with people from different backgrounds and turning ideas into something concrete they could explain, defend and show.
After
According to the account received, they later applied to a highly selective university in the United States. Within a process involving multiple criteria, the Mars Challenge experience was valued as relevant evidence: not only for the result achieved, but for what they had built, learned and been able to articulate through it.

What we can claim

According to the account received, Mars Challenge formed part of their trajectory and of the elements subsequently presented and valued in their university application.

What we do not claim

We do not claim that Mars Challenge caused their admission or was the sole or main deciding factor. The admission and how the experience was valued in the application still await documentary confirmation.

What we can claim.

We can document

  • Participation and projects with their sources.
  • Reported decisions and changes, clearly labelled as reports.
  • Follow-up, portfolios or later outcomes when documentation exists.

We do not automatically assume

  • Participation = impact.
  • Project or prototype = validated solution.
  • Recognition = technical validation.
  • Later outcome = caused exclusively by Mars Challenge.

How we document change.

Each story brings together a before, an experience and an after, with a source, edition context and an evidence status. We distinguish reported, documented and reviewed information. The «Verified» level is reserved for records with explicit review; it does not demonstrate causality. An Instagram post can be a narrative source, but it does not replace an evaluation. Before publishing, we review the scope of the account and privacy. Where the data cannot support a claim, we preserve that limit. Stories will be added continuously using the same model.
